Our Family – An Introduction

StarSolidBlue Our family came to Texas by many different routes. Our story is the story of dozens of families, each with its own tale. On my mother’s side, our ancestors have been Texans since at least the 1850’s. Dad’s side includes the longest-tenured Texans, the Mackeys and Eberlys, and the relative newcomers, the Cleaves.

Each family found its way to Texas along different paths, under different circumstances, and at different times. The Mackeys came from Scotland to Ireland to Tennessee and then to Texas in 1832. Robersons from South Carolina and Mississippi came to Texas in the 1850’s. Evans, Allards, Coxes, and Colberts made their ways to Erath County through northeast Texas. Roses, McKinneys, Austins, and Prathers arrived from Missouri amid pre-Civil War turmoil in the 1850’s. Eberlys and Elgins arrived in the 1830’s with early Texas colonists. Cleaves and Mundys came from New England by way of Kansas.

Once in Texas, they pioneered new lives as their families branched out, writing new chapters in the  saga. Trying to piece these stories together has become a challenge and an adventure. The work can never be finished because we are continuing to write it each day we live.

I have made every effort to be accurate and complete, but this is always a work in progress. I ask anyone who has more information or corrections to what is written here to contact me immediately.
